Sichuan province lies between central China to the east and the Tibetan plateau in the west. The western areas have a mountainous climate with very cold winters and mild, sunny summers. The southern area has a subtropical climate with very mild winters and hot summers. Sichuan was the cradle of a unique bronze civilization, known mostly from the site of Sanxingdui.
