What is the Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion?
The Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion is a ten-volume reference work, and the first to explore all aspects of dress and fashion on a global level, from pre-history to the present day.
What does it offer to readers?
The Encyclopedia explores the dressed and adorned body across cultures and throughout history. It is illustrated with more than 2,000 images – many of which are unpublished, or rare. Pulling together valuable and extensive international scholarship, it contains:
- more than 800 in-depth original articles – from over 600 international experts – on countries, themes, cultural groups, and dress types
- special articles on sources and evidence for each major geographical area
- ‘snapshot’ articles featuring illuminating examples and case studies
- invaluable bibliographies and suggestions for further reading for each article
- cross-references and an analytical cumulative index, plus cumulative indices
